Spectrum Mobile has a number of phones available for purchase, including the latest Apple iPhones and Android devices from Google, LG, and Samsung. While most of Spectrum Mobile’s phone selection includes more expensive flagships, there are several more affordable models available, including older iPhones and LG devices.

Spectrum Mobile has the following payment options when purchasing a Spectrum Mobile phone:

  • Buy it outright
  • Via Spectrum Mobile’s 24-month installment plan

Cheap Spectrum Mobile Phones

Spectrum Mobile phones include mostly expensive and premium devices, but there are several affordable options available. For example, Spectrum’s LG selection includes very inexpensive phones such as the K30 and Stylo 4, which are both very capable Android phones.

If you’re looking for a more mid-range Android phone, Google’s brand new Pixel 3a comes with great hardware and a critically-acclaimed camera. The upfront recommended retail price (RRP) still might be high for some, so Spectrum Mobile’s 24-month installment plan can make it much more affordable.

Apple’s older iPhone 6s is also an excellent mid-range phone. Just note that its 32GB version doesn’t leave a lot of room for photos and videos, so you may be better off buying a model with more storage.

Buying outright has few advantages with Spectrum Mobile Since their installment plans come with 0% financing.

How to Buy a Spectrum Mobile Phone

Buy It Outright

If you buy a phone outright from Spectrum Mobile, you’ll be paying the full recommended retail price (RRP). This can be an expensive option, as you’ll pay the full cost of a phone upfront rather than via an affordable monthly payment.

Buying outright does save you from a long-term payment agreement (24 months), but because Spectrum doesn’t charge interest for its installment plan, there’s no real cost advantage. As long as you’re willing to stay with Spectrum Mobile for a couple years, the installment option is the way to go, especially if you want a more expensive phone.

However, if you want to take your Spectrum phone to another carrier within 2 years of getting it you can at least get your full phone payment (required for unlocking) out of the way sooner if you buy it outright.

Let’s Talk Tip: Spectrum will unlock your phone after 60 days of service if your phone is paid off and your account is in good standing at the time of the request.

Spectrum Mobile Installment Plans

Spectrum Mobile offers 24-month installment plans on their phones with 0% interest, which is a leg up on many other MVNOs that use third-party companies like Affirm, which charges interest based on your credit rating.

You can choose from any of Spectrum Mobile’s phones and set up a monthly installment plan, with some as low as $10/month. If you wanted the latest Samsung Galaxy S10 or iPhone XR, the monthly installment plan can ease the burden of having to pay for a device in full.

Since Spectrum Mobile already requires a credit check for you to sign up for their service, you’ll already know if you’re eligible for Spectrum Mobile financing agreements before you purchase one of their phones.

Assurant Trade-in Program

When you sign up for service or buy a new Spectrum Mobile phone, you can trade in your old phone for cash via Assurant’s trade-in program. Simply start the trade-in process online, following the directions on screen. Assurant will make an offer on your phone based on the condition and model of your device and email you a prepaid shipping label.

Once you sent your phone in Assurant will mail you a check or transfer money via Chase Quick Pay within 30 days.

The program has several requirements, including the following:

  • Phone must be in good working condition
  • Phone must be restored to factory settings
  • Find My iPhone must be disabled

device protection programs have expensive deductibles to replace damaged, lost, or stolen devices in addition to their monthly payments.

Spectrum Mobile Protection Plan

Spectrum Mobile also sells add-on device protection for their phones through the third-party company Assurant, which covers damage and loss beyond standard device manufacturer warranties. Spectrum Mobile’s Protection Plan costs $12/month.

The plan covers the following:

  • Accidental damage (drops, cracked screens, spills, and mechanical or electrical issues)
  • Loss or theft

This add-on can be helpful for protecting a very expensive phone, especially if you are prone to dropping your phone. However, you should keep in mind that device protection programs like Assurant’s have expensive deductibles to replace damaged, lost, or stolen devices in addition to their monthly payments.

With Assurant’s device protection plan, your deductible for accidental damage to a Spectrum Mobile phone could be $99 (depending on the original RRP of the device) and as high as $280 if your phone is lost or stolen.

Bring Your Own Phone

Spectrum Mobile allows you to bring your own phone (BYOP), including both Android (running Android 9.0 or higher) and iPhone devices. To BYOP, you’re required to activate a new line of service with Spectrum Mobile. Current customers are required to add new lines as well—Spectrum Mobile doesn’t currently allow you to bring your own phone to a current line.

If your phone is compatible, Spectrum will send you a free SIM card to activate your phone’s new line and start service.

Some compatible devices include:

  • Apple iPhone SE or later
  • Samsung Galaxy 8 or later
  • Samsung Galaxy Note9 or later
