Republic Wireless is a smaller carrier featuring a unique service they have trademarked, “Adaptive Coverage.” Adaptive Coverage means your service will predominantly be over WiFi, and if WiFi is not available, your phone will run on Sprint or T-Mobile’s network. All of Republic Wireless’ devices are WiFi-calling, and WiFi-texting enabled. If you’re in the middle of a call, they claim it won’t be dropped if you transition from WiFi to cellular coverage, or WiFi to WiFi; however, the system isn’t always perfect. There are two Republic Wireless plans to choose from, and the price of the plans go up depending on how much data you want.

Republic Wireless Prepaid Plans

There are two plans to choose from at Republic Wireless. Each plan starts at a base price for unlimited talk and text, and you can customize the amount of data you want. Each gigabyte of data costs a set amount and you can buy up to 15GB, which will run you about $90/month all together. The two plans are similar but differ depending on the phone you use.

  1. If you buy a phone from Republic Wireless, you’ll have the “My Choice Plan” which runs on the Sprint and T-Mobile networks.

2. If you bring your own phone, you’ll have the “My Choice Plan – BYO” which runs on the T-Mobile network only.

Republic Wireless Family Plans

Right now there aren’t any specific Republic Wireless plans for families with shared data or minutes. However, you can have multiple lines added to the same account and paid for in one place, but there aren’t any discounts for having multiple lines like traditional family plans.

Republic Wireless Phones

Not all phones will work with Republic Wireless because not all phones are WiFi-calling or texting capable. However, if you buy a phone outright from their list of capable phones, you will be well on your way to service. You can also bring and use your own phone, but there are certain restrictions which are described below.

ONLY Android phones are compatible with Republic Wireless, iPhone fans will have to look elsewhere

Finance Your Phone Through Affirm

If you don’t want to pay for the full price of a phone upfront, you can finance the purchase through a third-party company called Affirm. Affirm conduct a credit check and have you place a down payment.

Affirm reserves the right to charge you up to 30% interest over the course of your payments, so you may end up paying more than the price of the phone after everything is said and done.

After that, you will make 6-,12-, or 18-monthly payments until your phone is fully paid off. If you don’t have enough cash to buy the phone outright, this may be your best option, however, Affirm can charge you up to 30% interest which could be expensive.

Buy Outright

There are only a handful of phones you can purchase new from Republic Wireless. If you’re an Android fan, I have some good news for you — Android phones are the only devices compatible with this carrier. Although there aren’t many brand new phones to buy from Republic Wireless directly, there are plenty of compatible headsets if you want to bring your own phone.

Bring Your Own Phone

You can bring your own phone, but your phone will need to be unlocked, compatible with the T-Mobile network, AND capable of WiFi-texting and calling. There are only a few dozen phones which meet these requirements, and if you’re an Apple fan you might want to look at another carrier as iPhones aren’t compatible with Republic Wireless.
