Motorola

The name Motorola has a rich history when it relates to cell phones. Before smartphones ever existed, Motorola had long been a pioneer in mobility. You don’t get much more pioneer than being the first to commercially release a handheld cell phone. That phone gave users all of 30 minutes talk time on one full charge. Over the decades, Motorola continued paving the road in mobility with super popular phones like the Motorola Razr.

Unfortunately, Motorola, as a whole, saw gigantic losses in the 2000s that forced the company to split into two putting its legacy at risk. Motorola Mobility was the branch of the split that primarily focused on consumer products including cell phones. A couple key moves helped save Motorola Mobility from becoming a relic of the past. First, Motorola released its first smartphone, the Motorola Droid, which is considered the phone that popularized Google’s Android. Second, Motorola Mobility was bought by Google which eventually sold the company to Lenovo.

Nowadays, Motorola isn’t quite the pioneer it once was in the mobile world. However, in the shadow of giant high-end smartphone manufacturers, Motorola has gained a reputation of producing excellent entry-level smartphones that are very budget friendly. Motorola phones are widely available on are supported by the major US carriers.
