Expert Reviews of Samsung SGH-T809 (T-Mobile)

Expert Rating: 3.3

We were immediately smitten with the Samsung SGH-T809. With its slider design, jet black casing and crisp color screen, this Samsung is one good lookin’ cell phone. But don’t let its slim design fool you; it is, after all, fully loaded (video record/playback, 1.3-megapixel camera, and MP3 player). Most notably, audio quality on this cell phone literally rocks with crystal clear calls and impressive MP3 playback through the included headphones or over the Samsung T809’s speaker. Overall, execution of most of its features is intuitive, but there are some memory allocation issues. Translation: while some of the apps share memory such as photos and music, other apps have dedicated memory that can’t be changed. Our biggest quibble? Battery life: it drains far too quickly. So keep the charger nearby. That said if you want a phone that will impress and you can live with a few trade-offs, the T809 is worth considering.

Great looking cell phone but it crashes (yes crashes) a lot! Try to get online...it crashes. Send a text, it crashes. Also the speaker is never loud enough. I loved this cell phone when I first purchased it but the more I use use it the less I like it. Very cool but unreliable.

The Samsung SGH-T809 has many bad things. For example, one is that the phone gets dust (minipixels) in the screen in less than one week. It also does not reconize any of your mp3 songs, so therefore you can listen to it but can not set it as a ringtong. Also, this phone's signal is so bogus! You get many dropped calls. The phone is nice and the memory card holds about 8-9 songs. The phone has a lot of memory, but not being able to set it as a ringtone does not make up for the phone.

The Samsung T809 cell phone is fantastic. Probably the most important feature for me in a cell phone is the ability to add custom ringtones and wallpapers that either I created, or downloaded from the internet (not from T-mobile). This cell phone gives me that ability, allowing custom walls, MIDI and MP3 ringtones. Using MP3 requires renaming the files to 3GP, otherwise some sort of DRM kicks in and won't let you use files with mp3 extensions. It's also a world phone, so I can travel anywhere I want with it and not have to worry (except for those roaming charges!). The slide up feature is very slick and it feels like a high quality cell phone. Very light, and long battery life (comparing this to Nextel cell phones). Nice cell phone, I recommend it.

Samsung SGH-T809 is a good phone, with a lot of good features. But, I do recomend reading the manual first, otherwise you'll find your self at a loss to do some of the more simple things with this phone.

Samsung SGH-T809 is a good looking cell phone (taken on account every other phone out there is a RAZR, this one stands out). Only thing that I didnt see worth about it its the bluetooth capabilities. Why go this far when you cant use your bluetooth headset to playback mp3's or voice dialing. If you do a lot of international travel you will definitely appreciate the quad band. If you can, get an unlocked version from the web.
