Last year RIM announced it was getting in the tablet market with the introduction of the BlackBerry PlayBook, a 7-inch tablet that runs the BlackBerry Tablet OS. The first models that are available today are WiFi-only models: 16GB model for $499, 32GB model for $599, 64GB model for $699. Other noteworthy specs include the tablets 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM for memory, so it should be quite a speedy device.
There are also two cameras on the tablet: a 3-megapixel one on the front of the tablet and a 5-megapixel camera on the back of the PlayBook. We should note that both cameras can record video in 1080p HD. If you want to share that video with a 1080p HD-capable TV with HDMI, you should be able to do it by connecting it to the TV via the micro HDMI port (you'll need a micro HDMI-to-HDMI cable). The PlayBook offers a solid web experience as well, since it supports HTML 5 and Adobe Flash 10.1 so you shouldn't have any issues loading or viewing websites. You can download apps and games from the BlackBerry app store, but you'll also have access to Android 2.3 apps and games. You can read more about how that works at this engadget post.
Are you going to get a WiFi-only BlackBerry PlayBook or wait for the carrier supported versions that will also offer data connectivity? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
