When we first saw the HTC EVO for Sprint at CTIA it was definitely exciting news. The EVO is loaded with features including the ability to play HD videos, record videos in HD, and a video out port so that you can watch video stored in your cell phone on a HDTV. That's pretty cool in and of itself, but this Google Android 2.1 smartphone does so much more than that.
In addition to supporting Sprint's 3G network, it also works on 4G networks where available. 4G is fast, so fast you feel like you're surfing the web at home with no lag time. It's impressive. In case youre wondering if youll have 4G access, here's a list of cities that have or will have Sprint 4G service. Super fast connections is not all that's included with the EVO; you can also turn it into a mobile Hotspot and let up to eight other WiFi-enabled devices share your connection via WiFi. If you want to activate that feature on the smartphone it will cost an extra $29.99 a month. However, we should note that you can activate and deactivate this plan feature when you want without having to extend the length of your contract.
We should also note the HTC EVO 4G is a bit wider than other smartphones on the market, but it has to be to support the 4.3-inch display that's ideal for watching videos on the cell phone. Oh, and you can even prop it up with the kickstand that flips out of the back of the cell phone. While the EVO sounds bulky, it's actually quite svelte so it shouldn't take up a ton of space in a pocket. The HTC smartphone also has 1GB of memory on board, but comes with an 8GB microSD card and it can take up to a 32GB microSD card in case you plan on storing a lot of HD movies on the EVO.
So how much is this phone going to cost a month? At the very least it will cost $79.99 a month for Sprint's Everything Plan with 450 minutes of talk time. Yes, we know that plan typically costs $69.99 a month, but the EVO has a $10 premium charge a month. It makes sense when you think about the amount of data HD video can take and the fact that you can also do video chat with this Sprint phone.
