HTC DROID Eris: What you can expect in the update

HTC DROID Eris users will be happy to learn this week their cell phone will start receiving an update, which when finished the Eris will be running Android OS 2.1. Users will also be getting an update to HTC Sense. Here's are some features that can be expected in the update:
- Pinch-to-zoom is now available when using the Gallery
- Google Maps with Navigation
- Enhanced Android Market with access to Verizon Wireless apps
- Ability to log onto and access multiple Google accounts simultaneously
- Location-based cinematic full screen weather keeps you on top of changing conditions.
- Free Yahoo! Mail is now supported
- Longer battery life
- Improved YouTube video playback
- Transfer contacts via Bluetooth
- Added support for stand-alone Wi-Fi when device is in airplane mode
- Faster power-up time
- Support for Microsoft Office 2007 documents
Some updates to HTC Sense include:
- Weather wallpaper, so the Eris will reflect the weather outside (based on GPS location) raining, dusk, night, etc.
- More HTC Widgets
- Quick Contact - select a name and be able to choose quickly how you want to communicate with them
- Calendar enhancements that let you combine multiple calendars in one view and a rolling agenda
- Leap feature that lets you pinch to view mini versions of the 7 panels and then select one
