The main distinction between Credo’s plans is their respective data allowances. That data can be shared with multiple devices, with a maximum of five lines per plan. No matter which one you choose, there is a one-time activation fee of $36, as well as the monthly cost of whatever device you have—$20 for a smartphone.

If you exceed your data allowance for the month, you are automatically charged $15 for each extra 1GB you use. This can result in expensive phone bills if you or those you share data with don’t pay close attention to data use. Credo does offer an unlimited data plan for $65/month, though it comes with an extra device cost—so for smartphone users, you’re really looking at $85/month. This certainly isn’t the best unlimited deal you can get; several other carriers offer unlimited plans starting at $50/month, though these other carriers don’t donate their monthly profits to nonprofits like Color of Change and Women’s March.

We figure that since the 6GB/month plan costs $60 (really $80) and the unlimited data plan is priced at $65 (really $85), you might as well go with the unlimited data plan. If that price tag is too high, consider asking a few loved ones to hop on your plan. A catch with this plan is that the unlimited plan price increases to $105/month as soon as you add a line. It remains at $105/month whether you have two or five lines, so it’s cheaper to add more people to the plan.

With this unlimited data plan, you also get 10GB of mobile hotspot on capable devices. There is no contract so if you wind up disliking the plan or getting poor cell service where you live (as unlikely as that may be on the Verizon network), you can always cancel.

Note: unlimited data rarely means unlimited high-speed data. As with many unlimited plans from varying carriers, your data speeds will be reduced after you consume a certain amount of data per month and will pick back up once the next billing cycle begins.
